The difference

Where asktrix is different

AI on your own key. Trix uses your API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or another provider. Your provider bills the tokens at their list price; asktrix sells no AI credits and adds no markup. tawk.to's AI Assist is billed by tawk.to, from $29/month beyond its free volume.

One flat price. On Team ($44.99/month, plus VAT) you get up to 6 seats, no asktrix branding, unlimited history, learning notes and quiet hours. With tawk.to, removing the branding ($29/month) and paid AI Assist (from $29/month) are two separate add-ons – from $58/month for both, before AI usage beyond the plan.

Built around the AI handover. Trix answers from the sources you approve, shows them with every answer and hands over to your team with a summary when it isn't sure. On Team, Trix learns from your team's answers (learning notes) and covers the night (quiet hours).

You want the lowest possible cost for a large team. tawk.to's core is free with no per-seat fees, and ticketing and a knowledge base are included. asktrix Free is limited to two team members and live chat.

You want to outsource the chat. tawk.to offers trained human agents from $1/hour. We don't.

Switching

Moving from tawk.to to asktrix

Plan for an afternoon. You can run both side by side on a test page until you are happy.

  1. Create a free workspace

    Sign up and invite your team. Start and Team can be tried free for 14 days.

  2. Bring your contacts

    If you can export your contacts from tawk.to as a CSV file, import them under Contacts → Import from CSV (up to 10,000 rows per file; existing contacts are matched by email).

  3. Set up your help center

    Recreate your most-asked answers as help center articles (Start plan and up) – they are also what Trix answers from.

  4. Connect your AI key and test Trix

    Add your key from Anthropic, OpenAI or another provider and check the answers in the playground before Trix talks to visitors.

  5. Swap the snippet

    Copy the snippet from Settings → Channels → Installation, replace the tawk.to code on your website and remove the old one.

Is asktrix free like tawk.to?

asktrix has a Free plan that is free forever for two team members, with live chat, the widget and contacts. tawk.to's free core has no per-seat fees, so for a large team that only needs chat, tawk.to Free costs less. Email, help center and Trix start with our Start plan at $19.99/month plus VAT.

What does the AI cost with each tool?

With asktrix you pay your AI provider directly for the tokens Trix uses – no AI add-on, no markup. tawk.to lists AI Assist as free for limited chat volume and from $29/month above that (as of 6 November 2026).

Can I take my contacts and chat history with me?

Contacts, yes: import them as a CSV file under Contacts → Import from CSV. Past chat transcripts are not imported, so keep an export from tawk.to if you need them.

Are there conversation limits in asktrix?

No. No plan limits the number of conversations. Plans differ in seats, history length (30 days on Free, 1 year on Start, unlimited on Team) and features. See pricing.
